The movie A Killer Among Friends starring Patty Duke and Tiffani Amber Thissen is based on the case of Michelle Avila aka Missy Avila. Missy Avila was murdered by her two best friends, Karen Severson and Laura Doyle in 1985. They lured her to a secluded location, and she was beaten and murdered by holding her under water with a log. There is also a book on which the movie is based called "Missy's Murder." The movie first came to tv in 1992 as a made for tv movie of the week.

I'm not sure if the girl of the pic that i posted since 2-3 weeks is Missy. She has feathered hair, green eyes and brown hair.

ReplyDeleteI watched this movie when i was i like 10...now many years later, i think its the only movie i ever remember from lifetime...its the saddest story ever..such a tragedy
ReplyDeleteI didnt like it it was to sad and i do not like to see parens loose children and those two girls did not need to do that to that girl she didn't even sleep with their boyfriends, and she even told one guy that she had to talk to her best friend first because she cared about the girls feelings most people are not like that. A innocent girl died and the mother was beyond hurt. She can never bring her back. My mom lost kids and it gave her heart attacks.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I did not understand, is the way the movie portrayed missy when he friends were killing her. Missy really didn't fight back...in the movie, but maybe in real life she did.
ReplyDeleteI think these two should stay in prison for the rest of their lives. I think it was so cold hearted for these girls to pretend to be compassionate to the mother knowing what they had done. Hopefully god will forgive them because I wouldn't be able to, and I am a forgiving person. Cold, Cold, Cold......

ReplyDeleteKaren was/is HUGE!! Missy was pretty small, so I can see her not being able to do much to her. I have no idea what-so-ever if she fought back. Laura on the other hand is average size and height.
Her birthday is Feb. 8, 1968
I just found out that Karen is released and is currently on probation! She should been in the prison for the rest of her life because she took Missy's life!
